How to Find Missing Mah Jong Tiles

Mah Jong solitaire is a game that dates back more than 2,000 years. It was created in China and uses 144 small painted tiles that feature different symbols and numbers that you must arrange in a certain pattern and match up according to the rules. Mah Jong tiles are smaller than a postage stamp and can be lost very easily. If you find yourself a few pieces short during setup, there are ways to hunt down your missing Mah Jong tiles.

Count your pieces before you start hunting so that you know how many you have to find.

Take inventory of what you do have. There are 144 tiles in the Mah Jong set and all of them are required for play. Count your tiles twice to see exactly how many are missing so you'll know how many you're looking for.

Couches are one of the easiest places to lose small items.

Check the couch for missing pieces. No matter what type of couch you have, items can easily fall into the creases and between the cushions. Remove all of the cushions from the couch and feel in the corners to see if any pieces are hiding there.

Look under and behind furniture for missing tiles.

Look under the furniture for pieces that may have accidentally been dropped. These tiles are tiny and easily fumbled during cleanup. Have someone help you to move and look under the furniture in the room you usually play the game to see if you can find some of your missing game pieces.

Check junk drawers for pieces that others may have found while cleaning.

Investigate junk drawers and catchalls. Make the rounds around your home and pilfer through the contents of all junk drawers in the house. The pieces may have traveled and been picked up by someone else, so check places where you yourself would place a random object.

Check your vacuum cleaner for tiles that may have gotten sucked in.

Scope out your vacuum cleaner. Because of their small size, these game pieces can be easily vacuumed up without anyone noticing. Turn your vacuum upside down and manually inspect the spin brush on the bottom to see if any tiles have gotten caught. If possible, sift through your vacuum's dirt canister or vacuum bag for any tiles that may have been sucked in.
