Directions for the The Cat in the Hat Board Game

The Cat in the Hat is an easy-to-follow board game from University Games. This educational game teaches early reading skills, counting and matching as young children move from "Start" to "Finish." This two to four player game is intended for children four and up and encourages parents to join in to help reinforce the learning opportunities. In this game, the Cat in the Hat has thrown things all around the house and you need to help clean up the mess before mom gets home. The player who collects the most items when cleaning wins.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure you have all the pieces for the Cat in the Hat game.

    • 2

Choose a playing piece and put it into a stand. Place it on "Start" on the game board.

    • 3

Use the "Player's Square" closest to you. Place all your Player 1 Picture Cards on the Player's Square.

    • 4

Place one Picture Card on each space on the board. Match the background color of the Picture Card to the color of the board. Place the yellow card, for example, on the yellow space.

    • 5

Take turns spinning the spinner. Move the number of spaces shown. The youngest player goes first, followed by the player to that player's left and so on.

    • 6

Move your player piece across the board. Pick up the card and place it on your Player's Square if you end your move on a Picture Card space.

    • 7

Pick up additional Picture Cards whenever you end a move on a space with a Picture Card.

    • 8

Stack the Picture Cards you collect on top of the other cards on your Player's Square. Use only the top Picture Card to make letter and color matches; cards below it are not playable.

    • 9

Reach the finish. Wait for all other players to reach the end. Count the number of Picture Cards you have collected.
