How to Make a Checker Board Out of Cardboard

Turn off the television and instead spend time together with friends and family playing classic board games. You don't have to run to the store and spend a lot of money on board games; instead, you can make your own. Make a checkerboard from a recycled piece of cardboard in just a few minutes with items you already have around the house. A cardboard checkerboard is simple and quick to make.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Make tick marks, using a ruler and pencil, every inch along all four edges of the 8-inch-square piece of cardboard.

    • 2

Draw horizontal and vertical lines across the piece of cardboard connecting corresponding tick marks on opposing sides--this creates an 8-by-8 grid made up of 64 1-inch squares on the board.

    • 3

Color in every other square with your black permanent marker in the row closest to you on the board. Start by coloring the square farthest to the left and work your way to the right.

    • 4

Color in every other square in the next row starting with the square farthest to your right and work your way left. Continue this alternating pattern until the entire board is colored in.
