Instructions for Scrabble Dice

Scrabble Dice, first released in 1990, is a cross between traditional Scrabble and the dice game Yahtzee. Players take turns trying to make words out of the letters they receive on a set of seven rolled dice. Rather than using one Scrabble board for all players, each player uses their own score sheet to write down word entries. Players can put words into one of two sections: the dice section, or the crossword section, each with varying point rewards.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove score sheets from the sheet pad, and give one to each player. Review the score sheet. Words that are two to seven letters can be written in the dice section. Players receive a fixed score for words entered here. Write words in the crossword section, where words can be connected and overlapped, for a larger point amount.

    • 2

Take turns with the other players rolling one die. The player who rolls the letter of the alphabet that is closest to "A" gets to take the first turn. If two players roll the same letter, roll again.

    • 3

Begin the game by having the first player flip over the hourglass timer. The player then places the seven dice into the cup, shakes the cup and releases the dice.

    • 4

Think of the best word that can be formed with the letters shown on the dice. All players have one minute, shown by the timer, to come up with their word.

    • 5

Write the word down on the score sheet in the desired area. The word may be written in the dice section, under the two to seven word categories, or in the crossword section.

    • 6

Give the shaker cup and dice to the next player. This player rolls the dice again, and players must again think of a word, then write it down. This process is repeated a total of 12 times.

    • 7

Total your score to determine a winner. If you have written words in the dice section, total up the fixed point amounts that are written next to each word. For the crossword section, add up the point values on each letter to determine the score. If you wrote a letter in a double or triple point word or letter space, adjust the score accordingly. The player with the highest score is the winner.
