Mystery Date Game Playing Instructions

The original "Mystery Date" in 1965 had players put together an outfit to match the mysterious blind date revealed at the end of the board game. A 1999 update was based around an electronic phone that provided hints to the players after calling one of several different boys. "Mystery Date" is recommended for one to four players ages 9 and up.

Instructions

    • 1

Place each of the four game card decks (Boys, Speakerphone, Share a Secret, and Mom Says Hang Up) face-down in a row on a flat playing surface. Place the electronic phone on the phone stand beside the cards. Give each player an address book and writing utensil.

    • 2

Deal one "Speakerphone," "Share a Secret" and "Mom Says Hang Up" card to each player. Shuffle the "Boys" deck and deal three cards to each player. Place the remaining "Boys" cards face-down on the table.

    • 3

Press and hold the "#" and "*" buttons on the phone to start a new game.

    • 4

Select one of the three boys cards in your hand when your turn begins. Enter the number of the boy in the phone and listen to the clue. For instance, the boy might say, "The mystery date doesn't wear hats."

    • 5

Mark out the eliminated boys in your address book. To continue with the hat example, cross out any boys wearing hats (as pictured on their "Boy" card). When you are finished, pass the phone to the person on your left to end your turn.

    • 6

Play the "Speakerphone" card during another player's turn to allow the entire group to hear the clue. Alternatively, play the "Share a Secret" card to listen in on the conversation with the current player but prevent other players from hearing the clue. Finally, play the "Mom Says Hang Up" card to end another player's turn immediately.

    • 7

Draw a new "Boy" card for each turn and listen to more clues. Mark out unlikely boys until you narrow down the possibilities and can make a guess during your turn. Enter that boy's number into the phone and press the "Guess" button. If you are correct, you win. If you are incorrect, your turn is over and play continues to the left.
