Game Directions for Clue

The game of Clue originally was produced by Waddingtons in the United Kingdom in 1949, and has been marketed by Parker Brothers, currently a subsidiary of Hasbro, in the United States since that same year. Be the first to solve the mystery of a murder by identifying the suspect, murder weapon and location of the murder to win the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Setup the board game. Place the board flat on the playing table. Take out all of your pieces or game tokens, as well as your six weapon pieces, the die, a pad of Detective Notes and the official Clue board game manual. Separate your cards according to their classifications of rooms, weapons and characters. Choose a color game token that represents a suspect, such as the red token to represent Miss Scarlet.

    • 2

Shuffle each set of cards that represent the rooms, weapons and characters. Choose one card from each set of cards without looking at the card or the other players. You should have a total of three cards and set them aside. After choosing your cards reshuffle the remaining cards all together.

    • 3

Place the three cards that represent the suspect, weapon and room that was involved in the murder inside of a small envelope. Place the envelope in the middle of the board over the "X." Deal the remaining cards out to the other players, one card at a time until all cards have been dealt out, so that each player will have a number of weapons, characters and room cards. This will tell them who didn't commit the murder. Give each player a checklist from the pad of "Detective Notes." Each player will spread out their cards and use the checklist to check off what their suspects don't have for rooms and weapons.

    • 4

Start the game if you have Miss Scarlet, who is the red token. Roll the die. Make your first move according to the die number. Once you enter a room, you are able to make a "suggestion" about that room on who committed the murder, such as "I suggest that the crime was committed in the Lounge, by Mr. Green with a Knife." Play will continue with the next person to the left of the current player.

    • 5

Allow the next person who is in turn, to your left, to prove that your suggestion was false. Your opponent will then look at her cards to see if she has one of the cards that you just named to be the suspect, weapon or murder room. If she does have one of the cards that was named, she will only show you the card and no one else. This proves that this card cannot be inside the envelope. You will then check off what she revealed on her card on your checklist. This play continues until a proven suggestion is made about the murder suspect, weapon and room that is inside of the envelope. The person who guesses everything correctly wins.
