Instructions
Set Up
Place all the starting tokens on their starting position.
Hand out all the heir cards. Each player gets a few heir cards. Hand out six in a two player game, five in a three player game and four in a four player game.
Place the action cards face-down at the side of the board. The "Clock Strikes Midnight" card should always be at the bottom.
Shuffle the character portrait cards and place one above the fireplace. The rest of the cards are placed face-down next to the board.
Roll a die to see who goes first. Highest number can go first.
Playing and Winning
Roll the dice to determine movement. The player who rolled the dice must move two of the heir pieces. Each piece must be moved the combined worth of both dice. For example, a one and a two on the dice indicates that two heirs must move three places apiece on the board. Any heir can be moved by any player. Players can then play a card.
Perform the action on the card. Room cards move heirs to the room on the card. Taking a New Heir cards let players steal an heir from an opponent. The Run for It card gives the player a chance to roll a die and move any heir. Trap Cards spring one of the traps on the card while the Wild Trap card springs any trap.
Remove heirs from the board if they are standing on a sprung trap. Players with that card should then discard it. If the removed character was the character in the portrait above the fireplace, remove his portrait. Replace it with a new one.
Gather gold and avoid getting trapped.
Repeat the process until all heirs but one are left. The player with the most money bags wins. The game can also be ended if the heir in the fireplace portrait escapes the mansion with his life. The player with this heir card wins the game. The game is also ended if all the action cards are played.
