Board Game Directions for Candyland

Place the game board on a flat surface. Pick a gingerbread pawn and place it on the start square along with the other players' pawns. You will be able to distinguish your pawns from the others because they come in different colors. When you are ready to start playing, shuffle the Candyland cards included in the box and place them face down on the flat surface next to the playing board.

Draw a card. Your move will depend on the card you draw. If you draw a solid color block, move your pawn in the direction of the Candy Castle to the nearest spot on the board matching that color. If you draw a card with two color blocks, move your pawn in the direction of the Candy Castle to the space nearer the castle that matches that color. If you draw a picture card, move your pawn, either forward or backward, to the nearest pink space featuring a picture matching the one on the card. For example, if the picture card has a picture of a candy cane, move to the nearest pink square with a candy cane on it. Place drawn cards aside in a discarded-card pile after using them.

Remember that there are two shortcuts. If you land directly on the orange space before the Rainbow Trail, you may take the shortcut immediately to the purple space above the rainbow. If you land on the yellow space before the Gumdrop Pass, you can move your pawn to the green space above it.

Notice that there are three licorice spaces on the board. If your pawn lands on one of these spaces, it is stuck there for one full turn.

Draw cards and move your pieces accordingly until one player lands on the multicolored rainbow space. Once a player has landed on this spot, he has successfully reached the rainbow castle and won the game.
