Nostalgic Wood Box Games

Before the advent of video games, board games were a popular indoor pastime. These games bring families and friends together, and many are still available in stores. In 1999 and the years following, nostalgia wood box versions of some of the classic board games were made as collectors editions. These popular family board games were given revival designs and sturdy wooden boxes that were throwbacks to the early releases.
  1. Monopoly

    • Monopoly is the classic game where the goal is to own the most properties on the board and ultimately own everything. Parker Brothers released the nostalgic wood box Monopoly in 2001. The game is designed for two to six players and suggests ages 8 and older due to the small pieces.

    Stratego

    • Stratego is a long-time favorite strategy game that has rules similar to Capture the Flag. The nostalgic wood box has a design similar to the 1960s vintage look and follows the old rules as far as ranking is concerned. It is a game that requires bluffing skills, strategy and memory to beat the other player. It was released by Hasbro and Milton Bradley in 2002 and is a two-player game.

    Clue

    • Clue is the classic mystery board game in which the players try to determine the killer and murder weapon using clues collected during game play. The game requires thinking about the potential suspects, and the winner is the person who determines the name of the killer, the murder weapon and the room where the murder took place. It was released by Hasbro in 2003 and is a game for three to six players.

    Risk

    • Risk is the ultimate war board game. The objective is to take over the world and conquer the armies of the enemy nations. While it requires strategy and thinking, the game also requires luck with the dice to win battles. The nostalgic wood box version was released by Parker Brothers to celebrate the game's 40th anniversary in 1999.
