Check off the cards that are dealt to you in the beginning of the game. You will have a detective notepad listing all of the suspects, weapons and rooms. One card from each category is placed in a secret envelope at the start of the game and all other cards are handed out to the players. You must check off the cards you have. This will help you narrow down the possibilities.
Roll the dice and take turns moving around the board. The game always starts with Miss Scarlet and continues with the player on the left. The object is to make your way to a room that you have not checked off of your list.
Enter a room in the house that is not on your list and make a suggestion as to who you think committed the murder, and what the murderer used. The room you are in is where you think the murder took place. The player to your left must show you one card if you are wrong. You can cross that card off of your list. If the player to your left can't disprove you, the player to her left must show you one of her cards to disprove your suggestion.
Roll the dice on your turn to try another room, or take one of the several secret passageways to another room (when it is your turn of course). Continue to make suggestions until you have crossed off every room, weapon and suspect except one. Those will be the solution to the game.
Head to the room where you know the murder took place. Tell the group you want to solve the game and name the suspect and murder weapon. The room you are in is your guess as to where the murder took place.
Check the secret envelope to make sure that your solution was correct. If it was you can display the cards to all of the players. If you made a mistake, you must put the cards back and let the rest of the players finish the game. To avoid making a mistake, cross off the cards immediately after they are revealed to you throughout the game.
