How do I Make a Talking Board Out of Paper?

The talking board is believed by some to be a means of communicating with the spirit world. Although commercially produced talking boards, most commonly sold under the trademark name "Ouija Board," are available in the board games section of chain retail and toy stores, some who wish to speak to the dead prefer to make their own. Handmade talking boards may include symbols that mass-produced ones don't, such as astrological signs, full words and phrases or alphabets in more than one language.

Instructions

    • 1

Write all the letters of the alphabet on paper or card stock that is stiff, smooth and large enough for the glass or coin to slide smoothly across it. Leave some space between the letters; standard talking boards have the alphabet written on two lines, divided at the letter N.

    • 2

Write the words "yes," "no" and "goodbye" on the game board. On a standard Ouija board, "yes" is in the upper left hand corner, "no" is in the upper right, and "goodbye" is beneath the alphabet.

    • 3

Add words or phrases to the board that may have meaning to the specific spirit you are trying to contact. For example, you may wish to include private jokes, nicknames or made-up words that only that person would know.

    • 4

Draw astrological signs or symbols of your choice. The upper corners of a standard Ouija board, just past the "yes" and "no," contain drawings of the sun and the moon. At the bottom corners are images of people playing with the board. As with your personal words and phrases, add your own specific images to help your chosen spirit communicate with you.

    • 5

Use a small drinking glass turned upside down, such as a shot or juice glass, as a marker. Be sure the glass is large enough for two people to put their fingers on. Folk lore dictates that you should never use a talking board alone.
