Home Games
Hosting a competition is a way to enjoy a friendly Scrabble game at home. These games can be organized casually between family members or friends, with prizes optional. The structure of a home game can be fairly liberal, because it's likely that not everyone is going to be at the same skill level. One way to set up a game might be to have players square off into teams, allowing all competitors to work together to decide which words should be played. Home games also could involve up to four players facing off individually.
Scrabble Leagues
Some cities and towns offer Scrabble leagues, where players can join individually or as part of a team. Individual play is set up similarly to the way tournaments are organized, with players competing in elimination matches. Rather than receiving trophies or money for each tournament, players earn points that are used to determine the weekly league standings. In team play, competitors from one team face off against players from another team to decide which group wins the head-to-head matchup for that week. Points are awarded for each individual game, with the winning team at the end of the night earning bonus points.
Scrabble Tournaments
Scrabble tournaments are held all over the world. The largest of these are conducted by the North American Scrabble Players Association (NASPA), which tours the continent holding tournaments in different cities each week. Tournament events are usually held on weekends, with some lower-tier events reserved for the middle of the week. Players who may not have the skills to compete on the NASPA tour can find local events close to home.
