How to Win at Clue

Clue has been a popular board game since its creation in 1948 by Anthony E. Pratt of Birmingham, England. Clue, considered a murder mystery board game, requires the players to clear up an unsolved murder. The winner of Clue must accurately identify the murderer, the location of the murder, and the weapon the murderer used. A player who guesses any of the three questions wrong can no longer play the game. These incorrect guesses allow the remaining players to eliminate suspects, locations and murder weapons.

Instructions

Watch the other players' game pieces to gain helpful clues about the murder which can help you to come up with a winning accusation. Move your game piece away from the other players' pieces, and let them fight over specific rooms. Place your game piece in the rooms that the other players do not seem interested in to gain the maximum amount of clues.

    • 2

Write down notes to chronicle the opposing players' suggestions, which can help you to make the correct accusation and win. Search for patterns in the suggestions to figure out the murder weapon, murderer, and room that the opposing players have narrowed in on.

    • 3

Suggest the cards that you have when your turn comes to make a suggestion. Say that your cards must have been involved in the murders to make the opposing players believe you have guessed correctly. Act out this strategy to confuse the opposing players and to gain more time for yourself to come up with a winning guess.
