Different Versions of the Game of Risk

Risk is a board game in which players use dice and figurines to attack and defend portions of the globe. The game was created in 1957 by French filmmaker Albert Lamorisse. Originally titled La Conquete du Monde, the game was brought to the United States in 1959 by Parker Brothers and renamed Risk. As of 2010, there are many different versions of Risk involving different eras, rule sets and intellectual properties.

    • As of 2010, Risk is available with an updated set of rules. The game is designed for three to five players and is appropriate for ages 12 and up. The game includes seven dice, 42 cards and five sets of units. Players compete over parts of the globe using the dice to decide battles. The new rules promise faster games and three ways to win.

    Risk: Factions

    • "Risk: Factions" is a video game for the Xbox 360. The game is part of the Xbox Live Arcade online service. It offers several different player types including humans, cats, zombies, robots and yetis. There is a single-player version with five chapters that unlocks each of the factions. The online version allows players to compete through the Xbox Live network.

    Risk on Pogo

    • Pogo is an online game service available through the Internet. As of 2010, Pogo offers an online version of Risk for free. A combination of five human or computer players face off against one another to conquer the globe. The game features animated units and quick distribution of units to speed up game time. Members of the paid subscription service Club Pogo receive additional features including new maps, in-game advice and the ability to create formal alliances with other Club Pogo members.

    Risk: The Lord of the Rings Editions

    • Risk is available in two editions involving J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. The original is the Middle-Earth Conquest Game and an expanded Trilogy edition. The expanded edition contains additional territories including Gondor, Mordor and Haradwaith. Players represent either the armies of good or evil and decide the fate of Middle Earth.

    Risk 2210 A.D.

    • "Risk: 2210 A.D." is a board game in which players take command of a futuristic Earth. Traditional units are replaced with battle robots known as Machines of Destruction (MODs). Players compete over areas including the continents, underwater cities and lunar colonies. Commander units add another layer of game-play and are used to access the space and underwater territories.
