Art Board Games

Whether you’re an art student or someone who just likes art, art board games are fun to play and come with prints of some of the best art from all artistic movements. Art games allow you to purchase and trade masterpieces, build a collection of valuable work before your friends, and even make and sell your own art to other players for fun and “profit.”
  1. Masterpiece

    • Masterpiece is a classic game by Parker Brothers where you bid against other players to acquire your favorite works of art. Each piece of artwork is randomly assigned a monetary value and the player who puts together the most valuable collection wins the game. Some paintings, however, are worthless forgeries, so you must bid carefully to avoid getting stuck with imitations. Masterpiece is a family game with an emphasis on bluffing and negotiation; it can be played with 3 to 6 players and is recommended for players age 8 and above. Masterpiece is currently out of print, but used editions can be found through resellers online.

    Modern Art

    • Like Masterpiece, Modern Art is about acquiring a collection of artwork that has a higher value than the collection of your opponents. Each player take on the role of an art broker who must buy and sell higher quality art than the other competitors. Modern Art uses a dynamic system to determine the value of the art that is bought and sold among players, which means that at the end of the game, the value of your collection depends heavily on what type of art you sold and what kind your opponents bought. Modern Art is a strategy game with an emphasis on economic transaction; it can be played with 3 to 5 players and is recommended for players age 10 and up.

    The Art Gallery Game

    • Aimed at art and art history students, the Art Gallery Game allows you to play the role of an art collector or an artist. During the game, you interact with your opponents and attempt to build a complete art portfolio before your opponents complete their collections. Collectors acquire art from artists, and artists sell their art to collectors. The game is designed not only to be fun but to educate players about art; it contains trivia questions covering art and artists from six different art movements across history. The Art Gallery Game is an educational game that can be played with 4 players and is recommended for players age 12 and up.
