Parcheesi Instructions

Parcheesi is a board game that originated in India around 500 B.C. It came to the United States in the 1870s. Parcheesi is designed for the players to go from "Start" to "Home" and is meant for two to four players. Since the game incorporates blockades and captures of another player&'s pieces, it does take some bit of strategy to win the game.

Instructions

  1. Set Up

    • 1

Set the game board so the "Home" sections connect to form a square. Each color section has to have its own corner of the board.

    • 2

Place the game pieces on the "Start" circle of the corresponding color. If you are using the blue game pieces, place them on the blue "Start" circle.

    • 3

Roll the dice to determine which player goes first. The highest number roll goes first, and play continues in a clockwise direction.

    Game Play

    • 4

Place one of your four pieces at the "Enter" space once you have successfully rolled a five. Roll a five, or roll two dice that equal five. If you rolled a two and a three you would be able to move. Roll two fives and you can move two game pieces to the "Enter" space. If you don&'t roll a five, you lose your turn.

    • 5

Advance your pieces toward the "Home" space in the center of the board by rolling the dice. One or two pieces can be moved on any roll. If you roll a three and a four, you can either move one piece seven spaces or move one piece three spaces and the other piece four spaces.

    • 6

Roll a double and take another turn. This can happen as many times in a row as the person rolls doubles or the player runs into a blockade.

    • 7

Form a blockade by landing two of your pieces on the same space. A blockade will prevent other players from going around it and cause them to lose a turn. You can leave the blockade up as long as you have other movable pieces in the game.

    • 8

Capture another player&'s game piece by landing on the space it was occupying. This sends that piece back home and it can&'t be re-entered until that player rolls another five.

    End Game

    • 9

Move your pieces into the "Home" circle by rolling the exact number you need to get there. If you are five spaces away and you roll two "three"s then you won&'t be able to advance into the "Home" circle.

    • 10

Move 10 free spaces for another piece each time you get one of your pieces into the "Home" circle. These rolls can not be split between pieces. If a single piece can not advance 10 spaces, the extra spaces are just lost.

    • 11

Land all four of your playing pieces into the "Home" circle before the other players to win the game.
