How to Create a Monster Truck Game

Creating a monster truck board game can engage a young learner who might already have an interest in monster trucks. The project requires a few supplies, most of which probably will be around the house. Children also can help with the project. Helping to create the game will allow preschoolers to use their imagination. This game helps preschoolers learn color recognition and develop early math skills.

Things You'll Need

  • Solid colored file folder
  • Stickers that resemble tires or small monster trucks
  • Markers or crayons
  • Permanent marker
  • Plastic coffee can lid
  • Large paper clip
  • Paper-fastening brad

Instructions

    • 1

Open up the file folder and lay it flat on the table. This will be the board for the game.

    • 2

Start in the bottom left-hand corner of the file folder and draw a wide backwards S-shaped line ending in the upper right-hand corner of the file folder. This will be the path the game follows.

    • 3

Attach stickers along the line you drew. These will be the spots for the tokens to land while playing the game.

    • 4

Decorate the rest of the game board surface using the markers or crayons. You can make it look like a dirt track, a grassy field, or even a race track. You can create any picture that seems appropriate to you for a monster truck game. This might be a good step for you to allow the child to participate by letting them help color the game board.

    • 5

Pick out game pieces. You can choose little toy monster trucks or small toy tires. Either you can find at a party supply store or craft store. You should get four to six game pieces.

    Game Spinner

    • 6

Poke a hole in the center of the plastic coffee can lid. The hole will need to be just large enough for the paper-fastening brad to fit through.

    • 7

Draw eight lines starting at the hole in the center going to the outside edge of the lid. The lines should be evenly spaced and drawn with the permanent marker so they won't get smudged.

    • 8

Write a number in each space between the lines. The numbers should be in order: one through eight. Use the permanent marker.

    • 9

Slide the paperclip over the paper-fastening brad so that it sits right under the head of the brad.

    • 10

Stick the legs of the brad through the hole in the middle of the plastic coffee can lid, and then bend them back so the brad stays in place. The brad will hold the paper clip to the lid, but it will be loose enough that the paperclip will be able to spin around freely.
