How Do You Play Yahtzee Showdown?

Yahtzee is a classic dice game in which players take turns rolling five dice in an attempt to get certain combinations and get the highest score. Hasbro took this popular game of chance and strategy and added some new components with Yahtzee Showdown. This board variation includes scoring chips, pawns and roll combination cards. The game hasn't been on shelves for some time, putting used game sets at a premium.

Instructions

  1. Setting Up the Game

    • 1

Set the game board and dice tray on a level playing surface.

    • 2

Stack the 12 cards next to the game board within easy reach of all players.

    • 3

Select your pawn and place it on the "Wild" corner space of the corresponding color. Stack the chips of the corresponding color within easy reach.

    Playing the Game

    • 4

Roll the red die to see who goes first. The player that rolls the highest number has the first turn, followed by the player to the left. Play moves clockwise thereafter.

    • 5

Roll the red die at the beginning of your turn and move your pawn clockwise the corresponding number of spaces.

    • 6

Attempt to add a card to the space you land on if it is not occupied by a card already. If there is already a card on the space, attempt to steal it.

    • 7

Add a card to the space by rolling the five black dice. You have three possible rolls to achieve the roll combination listed on any unused card. For instance, unused cards might include "Three of a Kind," "Full House" or "Sixes." If you roll a full house, position the "Full House" card on your space and place the listed number of your scoring chips on the card.

    • 8

Leave a space blank if you do not satisfy the combination requirements for one of the remaining unused cards with your three dice rolls. For instance, if the only remaining unused card is "Four of a Kind" and you only roll three of a kind, your turn is over and the card remains unused.

    • 9

Steal the card on your space by attempting to roll the listed combination. For instance, if you land on a "Large Straight" card, you can try to steal by obtaining a large straight with three rolls of the black dice. If you land on a "Fives" card and the owner only rolled two fives to obtain the card, you can try to roll two or more fives to steal it. If you are successful, return the owner's scoring chips and place your own on the card.

    • 10

Roll a "Yahtzee" to add any unused card to your space. Place the listed number of scoring chips on the card to end your turn. Alternatively, if the space is already occupied with a card, you automatically steal it. Replace the owner's chips with your own.

    • 11

Continue play until all 12 cards occupy a space. Once this occurs, the final round begins, which is called "Yahtzee Showdown."

    Yahtzee Showdown

    • 12

Take your final turn and try to steal as many cards as possible. Roll the red die to move your pawn and try to steal the card you land on. If you are successful, roll the red die again. Continue rolling and stealing cards until you are unsuccessful.

    • 13

Allow all players to take their final "Showdown" turn.

    • 14

Count up the chips on the board after all players complete their final turns. The player with the most chips on the board at the end of the game wins.
