How to Store War Game Counters

Traditional board-based war games use small cardboard counters to symbolize units used in playing the game. These counters can often number into the hundreds for each game used. Without proper organization and storage, your counters can become lost or damaged. These lost or damaged counters will adversely affect gameplay, at times even making the game unplayable. To prevent problems, a storage method that not only protects your counters, but organizes them as well is necessary. Following a combination method of storage can accomplish these goals, with little expense necessary and in a way that keeps your counters immediately available for play.

Instructions

    • 1

Unpack and separate the counters for your war game, placing them into piles by category. Categorize the counters by player sides, separating the counters into a pile for each player's use. For example in an American Civil War game, separate the counters into a pile for the Confederacy and a pile for the Union.

    • 2

Place each pile into a plastic baggie of suitable size. Press the air from the baggie so that the baggie takes up as little room as possible and then seal it shut.

    • 3

Mark the baggie according to game and category using a permanent marker.

    • 4

Place the baggies for the game into a drawer of a craft cabinet. You can purchase craft cabinets at most hardware stores, craft shops or online craft retailers. Purchase a cabinet with a variety of drawer sizes to make the best use of the space available. Use a drawer that's closest to the size of the combined counters.

    • 5

Place a label on the front of the drawer and mark the label with the name of the game. Place the drawer into the craft cabinet, and then set the cabinet in an easily accessible spot where you can remove the drawers from the cabinet without obstruction.
