Black History Board Games

Black history is an important part of American culture. Schools try to incorporate black history into the curriculum as much as possible, but there is only so much information teachers can squeeze into their already crammed lesson plans. However, there are many black history board games that you can play with your family to gain valuable black history knowledge at home.
  1. Underground Railroad

    • The Underground Railroad was created by Chatham Hill Games. It takes players through the trials and tribulation associated with slavery in the South. You'll experience the excitement and danger of attempting to escape to the North to gain freedom. This educational and entertaining game is played with two to four players, and it will teach you important black history regarding the Underground Railroad and how it worked.

    Nguzo Saba 7 Principles Game

    • This board game teaches pertinent information about Kwanzaa and its seven principles, which are unity, self-determination, working together, supporting each other, purpose, creativity and faith. The object of this black history game is to be the first to acquire all seven principles. This board game is recommended for ages 7 and older and it is fun for the entire family, because there is no limit to the number of players in this game. This game was also made by Chatham Hill Games.

    Prosperity

    • Prosperity is board game that focuses on black history and was created in 2005 by J. Amitenejah, a native New Yorker who works in real estate. The game teaches you about important black figures in history, who are represented on the game's money. The game board and play resembles Monopoly in that you maneuver around the board and acquire property. However, Prosperity differs in that rather than defeating players you work with players to create win-win negotiations and build wealth. Prosperity also allows you to build wealth without actually owning property, which also differs from Monopoly. This game provides hours of educational fun.
