Educational Vocabulary Board Games for Kids

Brain food doesn't have to be boring, and it doesn't have to be hard. Finding the proper board game enables academic skills to be strengthened. Various games are available in stores and online that provide children with the educational tools they need to be successful while still entertaining them.
  1. Spill and Spell

    • Spill and Spell is a fast-moving word game that encourages learning at all levels. Spill 22 26-letter dice onto a hard surface, and start the timer. Place dice together in various directions to spell as many words as you can. Similar to Yahtzee, players spill their left-over letters until they can't spell anymore. Scoring depends on how many letters you utilize. Rule-benders are included to accommodate younger players. This game is recommended for ages 8 and up.

    Smart Mouth

    • Smart Mouth is the "shout it out word game." Players compete one on one, shouting words as quickly as they can think of them. All players work from a central pile, flipping two letter cards at each turn. The new letter to the left acts as the starting letter, and the one to the right is the ending letter for all created words. Shouted words must be at least five letters in length, and the first person to voice her selection wins the round. This game also works well when played with teams. It is recommended for ages 8 and up.
