Basic Instructions
Play against one person or three. Place four marbles of the same color in your same-colored starting arrow. You only can move a marble out of the starting arrow (or tribal grounds, depending on the board setup/game version) to the starting position (the space outside the starting arrow) by rolling a one or six.
Once you get a marble on start, roll again and follow the arrows along the path, in a clockwise direction. If you roll a one or six while on the path, either move a marble forward or move a marble out of the starting area to the start position. Take unlimited extra turns if you continuously roll a one or six. You cannot land on or jump over your own marbles, even in your home area (or tee-pee, depending on board setup)
If you land your marble on a space that your opponent's marble occupies, send his marble back to his starting area. You forfeit your turn under the following circumstances: if you roll a number that would result in you jumping over or landing on one of your marbles; if you roll something other than a one or six and cannot move out of the starting area; and if you do not roll the exact number of spaces you need to move a marble into the home area.
If you move all of your marbles into your home area first, you win the game.
Short Cuts
In the original Traditional Game &Toy Co. Wa Hoo games, you can take a short cut by moving to the center board's hole. You must roll the exact number necessary to enter the hole; for instance, if you move a marble into the start position and roll a five, you move the marble to the center hole. You only move the marble off the center by rolling a one or six. You then move your marble diagonal to your own side.
If you're playing Pressman Toy Corp.'s Wa-Hoo! game, you can take a short cut one of two ways. End a turn with a marble on one of the pink central arrows, then move that marble along a short cut route on your next turn, counting each clockwise move to the next pink arrow as one space. Or, end your turn with a marble left on one space beyond a pink arrow space and place the marble at the center space, moving to the pink arrow position closest to your tee-pee and continuing down the path.
Partner Play
You also can play Wa Hoo marbles with partners. Sit diagonal to your partner, and follow the rules for individual play. You cannot land on or jump over your partner's marbles. If you cannot move one of your marbles, move one of your partner's marbles. (In Pressman Toy's version, if the only move you can make involves replacing your partner's marble with one of your own; you must remove his marble and return it to his starting area).
Once you have moved all of your marbles into the home area, you can start rolling for your partner on his turn. If your team moves all marbles into your two home areas first, you win the game.
