Pop Culture Trivia Games

Whether it is a family night in, a romantic rainy night with a spouse or a night drinking in a friend's living room, a board game makes a great addition. Pop culture trivia games are popular because of the interaction they induce and because pop culture has something for everyone, from sports to movies to celebrity gossip.
  1. Trivial Pursuit

    • Hasbro's Trivial Pursuit is one of the most popular trivia games, and the Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture and Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture 2 games are hits. While regular Trivial Pursuit games include some pop culture references, the versions specific to pop culture feature six categories: television, movies, music, sports/games, buzz (gossip) and fads (clothes, style, toys). The latest versions of this game come with a DVD to use with some of the questions.

    Scene It

    • While older board games are starting to implement DVDs alongside their original board, Scene It came on the scene with the DVD in mind. The unique rounded board, which can be played "short" or "long," has sold more than 15 million copies since it first went on the market in 2002, according to the game's website. The game has always been based around celebrity lives, television, movies and sports. As of September 2009, there is a board game, a game for cellphones and a version for the XBox 360.

    Specific Genres

    • There are many trivia games covering subjects of all kinds, but many pop culture trivia games are very specific. Trivial Pursuit and Scene It both have versions of games for specific fans, such as Seinfeld Scene It, Trivial Pursuit Nickelodeon Edition, Disney Trivial Pursuit, Trivial Pursuit Totally 80s, Disney Channel Scene It and Star Trek Scene It.

Other single games have also come out from other companies. Some of the games are: Seinfeld Trivia, Elvis Trivia, I Love Lucy Trivia, NFL Trivia, All About Star Trek Trivia, For the Record Music Trivia.

    Tips

    • In order to do well at pop-culture trivia games, do what most of us love to do anyway: watch TV, movies and sports, and listen to music. Television shows such as VH1's "Totally 80s Countdown" or "Jeopardy" will help any trivia board game player get better.
