Setup
To decide who goes first, have both players roll one die with the letters on it. Whoever rolls closer to the letter A gets to go first. Lay out the board in the middle of the playing area and put all of the letter dice into the pouch.
First Player
The first player reaches into the pouch holding the letter dice and randomly draws seven. The player then rolls the dice and the timer is turned over. Then the player must think of a word that can be spelled with the seven letters on the dice before time runs out. The player then places the word on the board starting with the space that has a star on it. Words can only go vertically or horizontally, not diagonally.
Second Player
After the first player has placed his letter dice on the board, the dice he did not use goes back into the pouch. The second player now chooses seven dice and rolls them. After the first player, every word from that point on has to connect to a word already on the board.
Challenge
Once a word has been placed on the board another player can challenge, meaning they don't think the word placed is a real word. The word will then be looked up in the dictionary. If the word is correct then the player that challenged will lose his next turn. If the word was incorrect then the letter dice will be taken off the board and the player that played the dice will lose his turn.
Second Round
When it is the first player's move again, they will remove the letter dice they placed the round before and return them to the pouch. Then pick seven letter dice again and add a word to the word that player two placed in the previous round. So at the beginning of each turn there should only be one word on the board.
Scoring
Each letter has a point value in the corner. After a word is placed, add up the point value of each letter in the word. Then check under the letter dice to see if the word was spelled on a bonus space. If a letter die is on a light blue space, then that letter is worth double its normal score. Dark blue squares are triple a letter's score. If a letter die is on a pink square then the score for the entire word is doubled and a red square triples a word's points. If a player has a word that covers a double letter square and a double word score then double the word first, get the total for the word and then double the word. If a word is on two squares that doubles the word score then double the score and then double the new total. The blank letter die counts as zero. If a player uses all seven letter dice to spell a word, that player gets 50 points.
Winning
In a standard game of Scrabble Express, the winner is the first player to get to 200 points. But if 200 points is too short, then have the players decide on what score they want to play to.
