Cards
Two sets of cards must be dealt to play Milton Bradley's Operation according to the instructions. These two sets are the Doctor cards and the Specialist cards. The dealer evenly divides the cards among all the players.
Successful Extraction
Play begins with each player taking turns drawing from the Doctor pile, starting with the card on top. That card will feature both a body part and a cash amount. If the player is able to extract the associated body part without touching the tweezers to the metal and setting off the buzzer, she receives cash in the amount shown on the card.
Unsuccessful Extraction
If after drawing the Doctor card a player is not successful in extracting the body part and sets off the buzzer, that player loses a turn. The player who is holding the Specialist card for the missed body part then gets to take a chance. If he is successful, he gets double the amount of money.
Points
Each of the body parts has a specific point reward:
Adam's Apple: 100 points.
Charley Horse: 200 points.
Spare Ribs: 150 points.
Funny Bone: 200 points.
Butterflies in the Stomach: 100 points.
Bread Basket: 100 points.
Wish Bone: 300 points.
Water on the Knee: 150 points.
Writer's Cramp: 200 points.
Broken Heart: 100 points.
Wrenched Ankle: 100 points.
The Ankle Bone's Connected to the Knee Bone: 200 points.
Winning
The game of Operation is won by the person with the most money after the last body part has been successfully removed. There is little strategy involved in the game. The best route to winning is to have the steadiest hand.
