Instructions

  1. How to Customize the Monopoly Board

    • 1

Decide the theme of your custom Monopoly board. Using this theme, write down the names of all the properties that will be available to players. For reference, there are 22 colored properties, four railroads and two utilities. Order the names of your properties from least expensive to most expensive.

    • 2

Change the names of the properties to the ones you have chosen. If you want to be creative, Include small pictures on each property. Make sure the color of each space still is visible to players.

    • 3

Choose names for your "Chance" and "Community Chest" cards and make the changes on the board in their proper locations. The names should match the theme of your game. Change the corner spaces, but keep the theme similar. Remember, you must have "Go", "Go To Jail", "Free Parking" and "In Jail" spaces.

    • 4

Create the property cards. Use the included cards or make your own with index cards. Visit the website listed in "Resources" below for the standard pricing of rent and housing for each property.

    • 5

Write your Chance and Community Chest cards using small index cards or blank business cards. Include several different rewards and penalties on these cards. You don't need to follow the cards of a traditional Monopoly game.

    • 6

Decide on the game pieces for your custom game. Use objects found around your house or customize LEGO pieces to match the characters you'd like to use.

    • 7

Change the center of the board using a photo or picture of the theme of your game. You can paint directly on the center or glue your design over the standard pictures. You're ready to gather a group of friends to play Monopoly.
