How to Play the Board Game Survivor

In May of 2000, the hit television reality show "Survivor" first hit the airwaves. It pitted 16 contestants against each other on a remote island, fighting for the title of the ultimate survivor and the chance to win a cool $1 million. This was accomplished through challenges, both as a team and individually, as they sought immunity to avoid being voted off the island during tribal council. Now this hit show has been brought to the world of board games, thanks to Mattel. The only things missing are host Jeff Probst and the million dollar prize.

Instructions

Divide into teams. The players need to split into two teams; Pagong, the yellow team, and Tagi, the orange team. Each player also chooses an individual color to use, once the teams merge and individual play begins.

    • 2

Begin team play. A player is chosen from each team to roll a die; whoever gets the highest score takes their turn first. One by one, every player on the team rolls and takes a turn, moving the piece the indicated number of spaces on the board. The space where the piece lands will indicate the card that must be read: Outwit, Outplay, and Outlast. These cards are what determines the fate of the team and its players.

    • 3

Using the cards. If a player gets Outwit, he will read the riddle on the card to the opposing team. If the team is right, they receive three survival items (items needed to survive the game). If they are wrong, the player reading the card gets the items. Outplay determines how well your team knows you. You read the question on the card out loud and then secretly write the answer down. Your team discusses the answer and once having agreed on an answer, they check to see if it matches yours. If it is, you receive three survival items. The last card, Outlast, is read to your team, and it's directions followed. It will be a challenge of sorts. To carry out these directions, the players need survival items.

Merge the teams. The first team who reaches the merge space, and it doesn't have to be by exact count, wins team play. This is when the teams merge and individual play begins. This is also when the fight for immunity starts and tribal councils come into play.

Begin individual play. The highest roller goes first, and just as in team play, moves the indicated number of spaces on the board. Just as in team play, the three cards are used, but the rules vary slightly. With Outwit, once the riddle is asked, each player gets one guess. Whoever guesses correctly moves three spaces. If no one guesses, or guesses incorrectly, the player reading the riddle moves three spaces. For Outplay, the player who correctly matches your answer moves one space; you move one space for every correct match. And with Outlast, you are the only player to take the challenge. Again, survival items are needed to reach the immunity idol.

Form a tribal council. The first player to reach the tribal council at the voting platform is the council chief and the tribal council forms to vote the first player out of the game. Play will then continue until there are two players remaining. At this point, the players who were previously voted out must agree on who should remain; that person is deemed the winner.
