How to Use Baking in Agricola

"Agricola" burst onto America's board game scene in 2008 and soon became the number one board game on BoardGameGeek.com. Playing a game of "Agricola" requires careful food management, and one of the best ways to create a food engine is to follow a baking strategy. Baking allows the conversion of grain into copious amounts of food, which, if properly managed, can feed your family for the entire game.

Instructions

    • 1

Use your occupations and minor improvements to get grain. If you have the Seasonal Worker or the Corn Scoop, you will want to play them as soon as possible and before acquiring any grain.

    • 2

Use your occupations and minor improvements for more efficient plowing. If you have the Plow Maker or the Turnwrest Plow, you will want to play them before taking the plow fields action.

    • 3

Try to get at least two grain and two fields plowed during the first stage. You will also want to Sow the grain into your fields before the end of the stage.

    • 4

Gather the resources to build an oven no later than the second stage. Play the baking tray if you have it, otherwise you'll want to grab a stone or a 3, along with 3 clay.

    • 5

Build the Clay Oven only when you have a spare grain sitting around, so you can immediately bake it into 5 food.

    • 6

Plow a few more fields and gather more grain and vegetables. Try to have more crops than fields.

    • 7

Sow your second round of fields with the Sow and Bake Bread action, allowing you another use of your oven while filling your fields again.

    • 8

Purchase the Stone oven at the same time you Renovate, if possible. This will immediately allow you to turn 3 grain into 13 food, as will any further baking actions.
