How to Make 8 Sided Dice

Making an 8 sided dice for a board game or role playing game is a very simple process. Basically, it requires making an octahedron shape, which has 8 faces. Rather than buy pre-made 8 sided dice from a hobby shop, you can create your own out of aluminum foil. By shaping one out of foil face by face, you can avoid the geometry it would otherwise take to create the shape.

Things You'll Need

Foil
Acrylic or tempera paint
Butter knife
Paintbrush
Marker

Instructions

  Tear off an 8-inch piece of aluminum foil.

  Roll the foil into a ball.

  Use the flat edge of a butter knife to shape the ball into having 8 even faces. This will be the most challenging part, but the dice will simply be 8 triangles fit together to make a complete octahedron.

  Paint the foil with any desired color of acrylic or tempera paint and let dry.

  Write the numbers 1 through 8 on each face of your 8 sided die with a marker or paint.
