Instructions

    • 1

Shuffle the decks of Omen, Item and Event cards, and set the three decks to the side of the play area. Place the Entrance Hall, Upper Landing and Basement Landing tiles in the middle of the table with plenty of space around them, and shuffle the rest of the room tiles.

    • 2

Give each player a character card with the dials on the starting numbers, and place the matching characters in the Entrance Hall. The player whose character has the soonest upcoming birthday listed goes first.

    • 3

Move through the house on your turn. The number of rooms you can move through is determined by your move stat. Whenever you enter a new room that is not on the board, draw the top tile from the deck and place it adjoining the room you came from. You must stop moving when you have used up all of your move stat, or when you flip over a new tile that contains an Item, Event or Omen.

    • 4

Follow the instructions on any room you enter. This may tell you to roll dice to proceed, or you may have a symbol that tells you to draw an Item, Omen or Event card. Follow the instructions on any card you draw. Items and Omens are kept face up in front of you unless otherwise specified.

    • 5

Roll the Haunt at the end of a turn when an Omen card is drawn. Roll six dice and add them together. If the total is less than the total number of Omen cards drawn so far by all players this game, the Haunt begins. Otherwise, the turn passes to the next player.

    • 6

Begin the Haunt by looking in the Haunt Chart table for the last Omen revealed and what room it was revealed in. That will tell you which character is the haunted traitor. Give the traitor the Traitor's Tome, and have him leave the room to read the appropriate section. Everyone else should read the appropriate section of Secrets of Survival.

    • 7

Continue play as before, only now characters may attack each other by rolling dice. Characters on the same space roll one die for each point in their Might stat, and whoever rolls lower must drop their Might marker one space.

    • 8

End the game when the traitor fulfills the victory condition specified in his Tome, or when the other players fulfill the condition specified in the Survival guide. If the traitor wins, everyone else loses! If the traitor loses, everyone else wins!
