How to Play Boggle

Boggle is a fun word game that requires less space to play than its larger cousin Scrabble. Words are formed using chains of letters, and players have a limited time to create words from the letters provided. A good dictionary and an extensive vocabulary can help players succeed.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the 16 letter dice into the cube and shake them. Once you're done shaking, turn the container right side up so the dice fall into the little holders. Straighten them out if they don't fall precisely into the hole, choosing the letter that is facing up as the top letter.

    • 2

Start the timer once all the players have paper and a pencil to write down words. The Boggle timer is 3 minutes, so each set of letters will only be available for that length of time.

    • 3

Play by searching for words that can be formed by combining the letters in the cube. You may start at any letter, and you may proceed from one letter to the next in any direction, but you may only move one letter at a time.

    • 4

Keep in mind that all words must be at least 3 letters long.

    • 5

Continue looking for words until the timer runs out. Once the timer runs out, it is time to reveal your words and total up points.

    • 6

Total up your points for the words you've found, remembering to eliminate the words that were also formed by other players. You get more points for longer words (7 letter words are worth 5 points, while 3 letter words are worth 1).

    • 7

Determine the winner based on who has the most points. Ties are resolved by determining who had the longest word, or the most "long words."
