Bobby Fischer Trap
Bobby Fischer was one of the most famous chess players out there and the trap named for him is a symbol of his contributions to the game. In a Fischer trap, the white king pawn opens against the Sicilian defense. Once this trap is played out, black either faces an early checkmate or an entire game of struggling against a strong white position. The Fischer trap is one that you should familiarize yourself with since it is so damaging to a person playing black.
The Elephant Trap
The Elephant Trap is a response to another common trap, which is the Queen's Gambit. To defend against this trap, black simply moves his pawn to keep tension on white's pawn. In this trap, black makes several moves that look like mistakes including sacrificing his own Queen. However, when the trap springs, it leaves black in the dominating position and white struggling for a chance at victory.
Queen Amidala Trap
The Queen Amidala Trap follows the Queen's Indian Defense and leaves black in a position to play aggressively and try to trap white. In the Queen Amidala Trap, black attacks the white pawn and sets a trap. White falls into the trap by defending her king with her knight. This trap leaves black in a strong and aggressive position even if it does not result in a checkmate situation.
Siberian Trap
The Siberian Trap comes from an aspect of the Siberian Defense. It allows the player to sacrifice a pawn and get the game to move more quickly. Unfortunately, the Siberian Trap allows the black player to move his pieces into aggressive positions and have a strong chance to force white to either sacrifice her queen or lose her king. Because of its aggressive nature, you should be watchful of this trap.
