Things You'll Need
Instructions
Get 32 old CDs. You may have collected a lot from advertising mailers or you can ask people to save them for you. The extra 8 are for the king move or for lost pieces in case you need them. Leave the CDs as they come. The shiny side will face up for one player’s checker pieces; the advertising or picture side will be face up for the opponent’s pieces.
Draw a checkerboard on the cement in an outside play area, driveway or patio. Make the outer dimensions about 4 feet by 4 feet. It doesn’t have to be perfect unless you want it to be. Kids can have fun drawing the game board. You want squares that are large enough to hold the CDs with a little space around them, about 6 inches. You will have 8 rows of 8 squares when you are done, for a total of 64 squares. Color in alternating squares with some with the chalk so that alternating squares are solid or plain.
Set the game up according to standard checker instructions (see Resources) and start playing. Store the chalk and CDs for future games in a cardboard or small plastic storage bin.
