Use the Caro pawn formation in a slow game for white to get an advantage with his queen. White puts his pawn at e5, creates a kingspace advantage, has a d4-d5 break and allows the queenside to gain an edge by the end of the game.
Utilize the Slav formation to put pressure on the c file for the white player. You can take advantage of blacks c paw and have a d4-d5 break. The Slav formation is great for a slow game.
Put into place the Sicilian pawn structure if you're playing black and you want to put pressure on the c file. This allows for a minority attack on the queen and puts pressure on the opponent's e4 and e5 pawns. This formation can be used for a more complex game.
Consider the dragon pawn structure for black to put pressure on the long diagonal and on the queen. This pawn structure is defined by having the d and g pawns up one space and can be damaging to your opponent's king pawns if he leads them out.
Use the d5 chain pawn structure for white in order to create a large-scale queen attack advantage. Break the c2, c4 and c5 pawns, and go after the g2-g4 and f2-f4 break.
