Getting to Know You Meeting Ideas

When planning meetings for adults or children who do not know each other, you can organize some getting-to-know-you ideas to break the ice. Ideas such as activities and games also allow everyone a chance to meet and make new friends. Entertaining ideas will keep everyone involved in the meeting, while having fun at the same time.
  1. Names

    • Learn names by asking everyone to sit in a circle. Give one person a beach ball and have her toss it to someone in the circle. That player must yell her name and toss the ball to another player, who must yell her name as she catches the ball. Each player must yell her name when she catches the ball. After doing the activity for about 15 minutes, have the players yell the names of others as that person catches the ball. This helps everyone learn each other̵7;s name.

    Circle Talk

    • Ask everyone to sit in a circle and talk to give everyone a chance to get to know one another. Tell everyone to state their name and share two interesting facts about themselves to the group. Other ideas include having everyone state their favorite hobby or sport. Everyone can compare their hobbies and interests. Have them mingle with one another to find people that have the same common interests and hobbies. Talk time will allow everyone a chance to loosen up, while learning about each other.

    Activities

    • Have each person select a partner. Give each person a notepad and pen. Tell the pairs they have 15 minutes to conduct interviews on one another to learn as much as they can about their partners. After 15 minutes, each person must stand in front of the group and introduce their partner. He must share any facts or interesting stories he learned about his partner to the rest of the group. Continue the activity by having everyone switch partners and do the interviews again. One-on-one interviews give people the chance to learn more about each individual as a person.

    Games

    • Play a game of getting-to-know-you bingo by asking everyone to list a few interesting facts about themselves on a sheet of paper before the meeting. Use the interesting facts to fill in squares on bingo cards. Give each player a bingo card when the meeting starts. The players must mingle with everyone to find out their interesting facts. When they find a fact about someone, they must have that person sign the square. The first player to have five in a row and yell ̶0;Bingo̶1; wins the game. Some fact examples include ̶0;like anchovies,̶1; ̶0;has four kids,̶1; ̶0;been to Hawaii twice̶1; and ̶0;collect stamps.̶1; Alternatively, set a time limit on this game, and the player who has the most signatures when time is up wins the game.
