Cheats for 'Mah Jong Quest Expeditions' on the DS

"Mah Jong Quest Expeditions" for the Nintendo DS puts a new twist on Mah Jong Solitaire, a tile-matching game that uses the same pieces as the classic Chinese table game, but with different rules. In Mah Jong Solitaire, you must remove matching tiles two at a time to clear the board, with tiles available only if they're unblocked on either their left or right side. The DS game adds tiles with special powers, such as dynamite tiles that explode other tiles, and balloon tiles. While the game doesn't have any official cheats, knowing some tips can help you clear as many boards as possible.
  1. Tile Strategy

    • When planning your strategy, focus on long horizontal rows and deep vertical stacks, as both can trap tiles and limit your matching options. Always work to maximize the number of open tiles. If you're deciding between two moves, choose the move that will open up another tile. Also, the game's timer won't start until you touch your first tile. Be patient. Take your time, and study the board before making your first move. Devising a strategy beforehand can help save time and frustration.

    Patience

    • While you may consider a tile unplayable at first glance, don't rush to judgment. Sometimes tiles may appear to be under other tiles when they're actually playable. Even a series of stacks may appear like a long horizontal line, tricking you into seeing them as unplayable tiles. Go ahead and tap the tiles to see if they're playable. If you don't find a match right away, a change in perspective may help. Flip the board horizontally and then vertically to get a fresh point of view and to expose obscured tiles.

    Puzzle Layouts

    • Exceptional game play can reward you with an unlockable bonus. If you play the game in Kwazi's Quest mode and solve all 64 puzzles, watch the ending animation and the credits, and then restart the game. You'll now be able to select the puzzle layout you want to play. However, you can only advance backward through the list, meaning you must pass through the previous 63 puzzles if you want to replay the final puzzle.

    Some Puzzle Strategy

    • To beat Kwazi's Quest, you must solve the 64th puzzle, "Final Triumph," which can prove more challenging than it looks. Resist the urge to dig into stacks and release balloon tiles. The best strategy involves a slow, steady progression. In contrast, on Puzzle 57, "Double Triple Towers," concentrate on clearing a tower level specifically to free balloon tiles, which unblock tiles hidden beneath. Puzzle 24, "Through the Looking Glass," features plenty of deep stacks, requiring you to flip the board numerous times to see available tiles.
