Games to Teach About Respecting Others

Modeling respect is one of the easiest ways to teach others to do the same. When teaching a group of children or young adults about respecting others, organize a variety of games for them to play. Games allow physical and emotional interaction. All you need are a few supplies and creativity to plan games about respect.
  1. Skits

    • Divide everyone into groups of four or five and have them perform respect skits. Give the teams 20 minutes to come up with their own skits about respect. Some examples include using kind words or writing thank you notes for gifts. The players can act out having a birthday party and the guest of honor can write out thank you notes for each gift he received to give the guests. This teaches respect when receiving gifts from others.

    Lists

    • Create a contest by giving each person a sheet of paper and a pencil. When you say ̶0;Go,̶1; they must write down as many respectful words or phrases as they can think of. Some words include ̶0;please,̶1; thank you,̶1; ̶0;yes, mam̶1; and ̶0;no, sir.̶1; Give everyone 30 seconds to write down as many as they can.

    Golden Rule

    • Teach everyone about the Golden Rule: ̶0;Treat others as you would like to be treated." Write the words of the quote on index cards, one word per card. Write down other words that do not go in the quote on the index cards. Hide the words all over a room. The first player to find all the words to create the quote wins the game. Alternatively, play in teams and have one player find a word at a time. The first team to complete the quote wins the game.

    Compliments

    • Ask everyone to sit in a circle and select one player to go first. Have each player look at someone in the circle and give him a compliment, such as ̶0;You have pretty eyes̶1; or ̶0;You are a very nice person.̶1; Make sure each person in the circle receives a compliment from another person.
