Games to Promote Hygiene for Young Girls

Face

• Teach girls how to correctly wash their faces with fun games. Have each girl select a partner and give the girls several bags of makeup. Tell the girls to do each other̵7;s makeup. After they do each other̵7;s makeup, have two girls stand at a double sink in front of a mirror. Give the girls face wash and a washcloth to wash their faces. The first girl to clean her face wins the game. Take a wet wipe and wipe the girl̵7;s face to see if it is clean. If any makeup comes off on the wipe, she must continue to wash her face. This teaches the girls to thoroughly clean their faces.

Hands

• Ask the girls to sit in a circle. Cover a marker with stick glue and glitter. Hand the markers to one of the girls along with a sheet of paper. Each girl must take the marker and write down her name on the sheet of paper. Tell the girls to pretend the glitter pieces are germs and pay attention to how easily germs can spread when you do not wash your hands. Have two girls stand at two sinks and give each of them a bottle of hand soap. The first girl to get all the glitter off her hands wins a prize.

Dental

• Print dental games, such as bingo, and a word search for the girls to do. Print bingo cards with words like toothbrush, floss, decay, chewing, sugar, toothpaste, mouthwash and cavity. Give each girl a bingo card and have her mark off the words as you call them out. The first girl to get a bingo and yell ̶0;Brush your teeth,̶1; wins the game. You can also print word searches with the same words. Give one to each girl and the first player to finish the puzzle wins a prize.

Body

• As young girls start experiencing their menstrual cycles, it is important to teach them to have good hygiene. Tell the girls they must shower daily, use antibacterial body wash and change feminine products regularly to avoid any smells. After you teach the girls about important feminine hygiene, make a true or false questionnaire for them to answer. Some examples include ̶0;You do not have to shower every day during your menstrual cycle for good hygiene̶1; or ̶0;You need to use an anti-bacterial soap to kill as many germs as possible.̶1; The girl who answers the most questions correctly wins the game.
