Fraternity & Sorority Games to Play Outside

Being part of a fraternity or sorority is all about building relationships with your brothers and sisters in the organization and enjoying camaraderie with one another. While games bring out a competitive spirit in some people, playing games together allows you to get to know one another and work together as a team to build relationships. Divide the fraternity or sorority to pit members against one another, or engage in activities as a team where you compete against other fraternities, sororities or campus groups.
  1. Intramurals

    • Many colleges and universities sponsor intramural competitions for sports such as kickball, soccer, sand volleyball, basketball and baseball. Put together a team with members of your fraternity or sorority and vie against other campus groups. The intramural competitions are often divided into ability categories, so you may be able to form multiple teams with players of different abilities, or form two teams at the same level and have a healthy competition to see which team does better.

    Field Day

    • Hold a field day with members of your fraternity or sorority. Even college students are not too old for traditional field day events such as short races, three-legged races, tug-of-war and a water balloon toss. Pit freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors against one another and see which class in the fraternity has the best skills. Invite other sororities and fraternities to form teams for each event and participate in the field day. Start a new tradition by giving a trophy to the fraternity or sorority that wins the most events.

    Inflatable Games

    • If your fraternity or sorority house has a large yard, rent inflatable games to play with one another. Engage your fellow brothers and sisters in a game of sumo wrestling, where two members wrestle in an inflatable ring while dressed in giant inflatable sumo wrestling costumes. Rent a few giant bubble balls and have a race to see who is able to run the fastest in the ball or the farthest without falling down. Time one another as you travel through an inflatable obstacle course or go down an inflatable water slide.

    Team-Building Games

    • Engage your brothers or sisters in outdoor team-building games. Tackle a ropes course or an outdoor obstacle course together, sharing encouraging comments and tips as each member completes the course. Visit a local paintball park and form smaller teams within your fraternity or sorority and require team members to strategize to beat other teams. Give groups of members a pile of sticks, tape and a few other supplies and challenge them to build a hut in a set amount of time or pair up littles and bigs and have them complete a scavenger hunt together.
