Cheats for Jolly Rover

A point-and-click game for the PC, "Jolly Rover" stars Gaius James Rover, an affable dachshund who must retrieve his ship's stolen cargo from some drunken pirates. While the game doesn't feature any official cheats, knowing some tips can help you solve the many challenging puzzles and assist Rover on his noble quest.
  1. Parrot

    • While trapped on Captain Howell's ship, you'll encounter a caged parrot in the hold. To rescue the parrot, you first need to collect the oil lamp from the brig. Now combine the oil lamp with the scarf found in the hold to create an oily rag, which you can then use on the parrot cage's rusty lock. Once you've oiled the lock, you can use the keys found on the hold's back wall to open the cage. The parrot will be a valuable asset, providing hints throughout the game whenever you get stuck. Be sure and grab some crackers too so you'll have something to feed him.

    Rum

    • To escape the ship, Rover asks to switch places with Bobby, who mans the deck. However, Bobby will only switch with Pete, who's resting in the sleeping quarters. Rover decides to get Pete drunk, so Bobby will have no choice but to let Rover take over deck duty. Before he can get Pete drunk, Rover needs to get some rum. If you go to the galley, you'll find the cook sleeping with the only bottle of rum in his arms. Take dried fish and peppercorn from the sink area. Use your oily scarf on the galley window's rusty hinges to open the window. Hang the dried fish on a hook in front of the open window to lure noisy birds, which in turn wakes up the cook. He'll spill some rum on the floor while closing the window. Use the peppercorn with the spilled rum and then open the window to let in the birds, causing a distraction that will allow you to swipe the rum.

    Hammock

    • In order to join Captain Howell's crew, Rover must make the captain's favorite dish, Salamagundi Salad. Rover needs to track down a man named Ron Cooper to get the recipe. Cooper lives in an old shack atop a cliff on Groggy Island. To reach the shack, string the fishing net between two palm trees on the beach below to create a makeshift trampoline. Spring off the hammock to soar through the air and land next to Cooper, who will then teach you the fine arts of pirate voodoo.

    Achievements

    • Performing certain tasks can earn you up to 15 individual achievements. For example, joining a pirate crew wins you the "Yo Ho Ho" award. Infiltrating the pirate stockade earns the "Masquerade" award. Sailing to Shipwreck Island wins the "Captain Rover" award, and managing to complete the game without using any hints wins the "Adventure Gamer" award.
