20 Questions
To play this favorite guessing game appoint one camper as the facilitator, responsible for thinking up a object or a thing. To prevent possible conflict have the facilitator write the answer down on a piece of paper and fold it in half. Campers will take turns quizzing the facilitator, asking questions to reveal the identify of the object. Campers have 20 questions to correctly guess the object. When the campers can't successfully guess the object, the facilitator opens the piece of paper to reveal the answer.
Telephone
Have one camper come up with a simple sentence such as, "Sally went to the grocery store to buy a bag of marshmallows." The first camper will whisper the sentence to the second camper, who will pass the message onto the next camper. The sentence will be passed around the campfire until it reaches the last camper. Instruct the last camper to say the sentence out loud. In all likelihood the sentence will have drastically changed during the game and it won't resemble its original form.
S'more Races
With its chocolatey and sticky goodness, s'mores are a fan favorite around the campfire. Inject a bit of family competitiveness when making your s'mores. Using either a stopwatch or an egg timer, time how many s'mores campers can make in 10 minutes. Pair younger children with older campers. For safety reasons, put older campers in charge of marshmallow roasting. Regardless if a team wins or loses, everyone will be rewarded with a sweet treat.
Safety
When playing games around a campfire follow common sense rules for the safety of all, especially for young campers who may have limited experience around fire. Build a small fire you can easily control. Have a bucket of water and a shovel on hand in case you need to quickly extinguish the fire. After lighting the campfire, put away matches and lighters. Keep and enforce a strict 10-foot boundary around the campfire. Children should always be closely supervised by adults when around fire. Completely extinguish the campfire when done.
