Games to Play With Licorice Laces

Licorice lace lends itself to a variety of games. Use the long, skinny, flexible strings of licorice for games at a candy-themed party or get-together for children. Licorice laces are available at most candy stores and online, in a variety of colors and flavors. You can award game winners with packages of the candy to take home as a memento of the party or gathering.
  1. Jewelry

    • Create a jewelry contest using licorice laces. Give each player two or three strands of licorice. Place bowls of ring-shaped candy on the table, and have the players design licorice jewelry. They can use the ring-shaped candy pieces as beads or joiners strung on or tied to the licorice laces. They can make bracelets, anklets and necklaces. Award prizes to the best, most creative and wildest candy creations.

    Tossing

    • Organize a few tossing games by making rings with the licorice laces. Tie two or three licorice-lace pieces together to create a ring. Hang the ring underneath a countertop or outside on a clothesline. Players must use hard candy pieces to try to toss through the ring. Give each player 10 pieces of candy to toss. The player who gets the most pieces of candy through the licorice rings wins the game. Another idea is to lay the candy rings on a table. Have the players try to toss the candy inside the rings. If the candy stays in the ring, the player earn a point. If it bounces out, the player earns no point. The player with the most points wins the game.

    Tying

    • Prepare a tying game to see who can tie the most knots in one piece of licorice lace. Give the players five minutes to tie knots in the licorice. After five minutes, count each player's knots, and the player with the most knots wins the game. Alternatively, give each player several pieces of licorice. When you say "Go," players must tie as many pieces of licorice lace together as they can. The player who ties the most pieces of licorice together in five minutes wins the game and a prize.

    Limbo

    • Make a game of licorice limbo for children to play. Tie several pieces of licorice lace together to create a "limbo bar." Play music and have two adults hold the licorice limbo bar. Players must see how low they can go under the licorice while music plays. The adults must lower the licorice for each round. If a player touches the licorice, he is out of the game. The player who can go the lowest without touching the licorice wins the game and a prize.
