Loopz Game Rules

Mattel's Loopz tests players' ability to remix music, repeat sequences and keep up with fast-changing light patterns. Recommended for ages 7 and up, the game features no touching; rather, sensors pick up players' hand movements as they wave them through loops that flash lights and make sounds. Rules for the seven Loopz modes help players as they tackle both single-player and multiplayer games.
  1. Create-A-Track Mode

    • Players mimic light patterns to create a track in "Musicology." In this single-player game, Loopz displays random light patterns and plays an instrument as accompaniment. After each successful mimic of a pattern, players hear the work they just completed. Loopz then plays another light pattern with different instrument accompaniment. This cycle continues until players complete five instrument patterns, at which time they hear the full track. The three-level game ends if players make three errors during a pattern.

    Freestyle Modes

    • Players remix music in "Freestyle DJ." In this noncompetitive single-player game, players select a song and wave their hands through the four loops to alternate the music that plays. Aside from shifting their hands from one loop to another, players wave their hands through two loops simultaneously to produce special effects such as scratches.

"Music Studio" challenges players to master a scale of 10 notes on an instrument. In this noncompetitive single-player game, players wave their hand through loops making instrument sounds. To play notes from lowest to highest, players follow the indicated loop pattern.

    Pattern-Mimic Modes

    • "Repeat the Beat" challenges players to memorize light patterns. In this single-player game, players repeat light patterns as loops flash them. As players try to repeat the order of the flashing lights, the game continues tacking more flashing lights onto the challenge. Upon completing 10 prompts, players move to the next level. Players receive a silver, gold or platinum medal dependent on their performance in this three-level game.

Two players build a musical sequence and try to memorize the pattern in "Versus Mode." After one player waves his hand through any loop, the second player repeats the prompt. Then, the second player waves her hand through any loop, adding another prompt to the pattern. Play continues in this manner, with players repeating patterns and adding prompts. The game ends when a player makes three errors. The player with the most correct pattern mimics wins.

    Reflex-Tester Modes

    • Loopz challenges players to keep up with flashing lights in "Reflex Master." Players score successful hits if they move their hands through flashing loops before the lights go out. In a single-player game, players must score the minimum number of hits to move to the next level. Players must score 50 hits in the third level to finish the game. In a multiplayer game, players take turns and try to score as many hits as possible in 30 seconds. The player with the highest score wins.

Players try to keep the music going in "Rhythm and Flow." In this single-player game, songs start over if players fail to wave a hand through the loop before the light goes out or if they wave a hand through the wrong loop. Players move to the next level if a song plays without interruption for 30 seconds. The game ends if players make six errors during a song. Players receive a silver, gold or platinum medal depending on their performance.
