How to Play Back Alley Dice

The game of back alley dice is quite similar to the game of craps you'd typically play in a casino, except for the obvious difference of the surface on which it is played and the lack of a banker. There are two basic betting options---pass and don't pass---after the shooter places his or her wager. The betting starts to the shooter's left and goes around the "circle" in a clockwise direction until all players have either covered the full bet, a portion of it or not all. If a player chooses not to wager against or with the shooter, he will most likely wager against another player.

As stated above, the shooter makes his bet---pass or don't pass. The other players can wager on a pass or don't pass by covering the bet, covering a portion of it or not at all. Once the shooter's bet is covered, the other players can wager against each other in side bets.

    • 2

The shooter takes his first roll, or the "Come Out." The roll breaks down as follows:

      -- 7 or 11 - pass wins, don't pass losses
      -- 2, 3 or 12 -- pass loses, don't pass wins
      -- 4-10 -- point

The purpose of the "point" is to set the dice for the following rolls, and the shooter then will continue. The bets placed on pass and don't pass are now transferred to what is considered a "standing wager."

    • 3

The shooter rolls the dice again (and continues to roll) until the "point" comes up a second time or a 7 is rolled. If they roll the "point," the shooter wins and the round is over. If they roll a 7, the shooter loses and the round is also over. If neither comes up, he continues to roll. The goal of the shooter is to get the "point" before a 7.
