Daisy Scout Activities and Crafts

Daisy is the first level of Girl Scouts and is limited to girls between the ages of 5 to 7. According to the Girl Scouts website, girls discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together, through a myriad of shared enriching experiences. When planning monthly Girl Scout meetings for Daisies, prepare a variety of activities to keep the meetings lively; include games, crafts and projects for the girls to do.
  1. Daisy Petal Crafts

    • Daisy petals are 10 patches of different colors that form a circle. These represent the 10 Girl Scout laws. Have your Daisy Girl Scouts decorate a basic tote bag using colored craft foam. They must cut petals out of the foam and glue them to the front of the bag in a circle; or give them a small metal craft ring or keychain. They can poke holes through the top of the foam circles and thread them onto the key ring. For added decoration, have the girls write what each color represents on the foam using markers.

    Funny Games

    • Play a couple of funny games that teach the girls how to work together.

Have two adults go around the room tapping the girls on the shoulder. They must designate each girl either a duck or a cow. They girls then go around the room mooing and quacking, until they find all of their teammates. The first group to have all of their players together wins the game.

Divide the girls into pairs and tell them to sit down back-to-back on the floor. Have them interlock elbows and tell them to try to stand-up. The first team to stand-up with their arms still interlocked wins the game.

    Fabric Crafts

    • T-shirts, backpacks and pillowcases are available online and at some retail stores with Daisy Girl Scout sayings. Some sayings include ̶0;Girl Scout Daisy̶1; and some say ̶0;Courage, Confidence and Character.̶1; Some shirts, backpacks and pillowcases simply say ̶0;Girl Scouts.̶1; The girls can use fabric markers, beads, glitter pens and puff paints to decorate the fabric items. Alternatively, give the girls blank fabric items and have them create their own Girl Scout sayings.

    Balloon Games

    • Divide the girls into two teams and have each team stand in a circle. Ask the girls to face outwards. Give one girl a broom and an inflated balloon, one for each team. When you say ̶0;Go,̶1; she must sweep the balloon around her team circle and back to her place. When she reaches her place in the circle, she will hand the broom and balloon off to the next player in the circle, who must do the same thing. The first team to finish the relay wins the game.

Another idea is to have the girls face the middle and toss five inflated balloons into each circle. Every 10 seconds, toss another balloon into each circle. The team who can keep the most balloons in the air wins the game.
