Team Building Games With Limited Resources

Team building games provide children and adults an opportunity to learn from each other and themselves. When organizing team building opportunities, you can choose a few games that require the team to complete a task with limited resources. All you need are a few supplies and some creativity to prepare games that will improve team communication and conflict resolution.
  1. Card Games

    • Assign the players into groups of five or six and give each team a deck of cards. Tell the teams they have 10 minutes to build the tallest tower they can using only the deck of cards. If the card tower falls before time is up, they can rebuild. The team with the tallest standing tower after 10 minutes wins the game. Another idea is to give each team a roll of tape with the cards. After 10 minutes, add small weights to the tower to see who has the strongest tower instead of the tallest tower.

    Relay Races

    • Mark a starting line and finish line 30 feet apart. Divide the players into two teams. Have everyone get into pairs. Tell the players to stand back-to-back and interlock elbows. When you say ̶0;Go,̶1; they must race to the finish line. Players must keep their arms interlocked throughout the race. The first team to get all its players across the finish line wins the game. Alternatively, have the entire team stand in a circle and connect their arms. Instruct each team race to the finish line.

    Crossing Games

    • Divide the players into two teams and lay two ropes on the ground parallel at about 25 feet apart. Give each team one paper plate per every two players. When you say ̶0;Go,̶1; the teams must work together to use the paper plates to get across the ̶0;river.̶1; The river is the space in between the two ropes. The players cannot touch the ground in between the ropes at any time. Players can get onto each another member's shoulders or back to get across the river, as well as using the paper plates under their feet. The first team to get all their players across the river wins the game. Make the game more challenging by having the teams start over if they step off the paper plates at any time.

    Hoop Games

    • Have two equal sized teams stand in a circle and hold hands. Separate two players' hands in each circle and place a hula-hoop on their arms. Have them hold hands again and yell ̶0;Go.̶1; The teams must pass the hoop all the way around the team circle without letting go of each any other person's hands. The first team to get the hoop all the way around the circle wins the game. Make the game harder by placing three or four hoops in each circle instead of one.
