How to Clean a Pool Cue Ferrule

Keeping a pool cue ferrule clean is important in extending the life and functionality of the pool stick. The ferrule is located at the end of the pool cue just below the tip and is usually made of resin-based materials, ivory, metal or carbon fiber. The ferrule protects the wood from the intense impact of the tip on the pool balls. With time, the ferrule builds up dirt and chalk residue. Removing this residue prevents damage to the ferrule and retains pool cue accuracy.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe the entire pool cue down with a damp cloth, focusing on removing the chalk and powder residue from the shaft and ferrule.

    • 2

Dry completely with a paper towel. Check the ferrule for chalk stains and residue. If there seems to be a build up or staining of the ferrule, it will need a deeper cleaning.

    • 3

Place painter's tape around the shaft of the pool cue just under the ferrule. Place a small piece of tape around the outer edge of the tip. Do not cover the tip directly as the tape residue may cause damage to the tip.

    • 4

Apply a small bead of white toothpaste to the ferrule and rub it around, being careful not to get any of the paste on the tip or shaft.

    • 5

Wipe the ferrule with a damp cloth, making sure to remove all traces of the toothpaste and dry thoroughly with a paper towel.

    • 6

Remove the painter's tape gently and wipe down the shaft with a dry paper towel.
