Get Acquainted Games for Groups

Getting acquainted games, also known as icebreakers, are perfect for groups of children and adults of all ages. The games give people a chance to meet and make new friends. Choose games that help everyone learn each other̵7;s names and facts about each other. Encourage players to stay involved in the games and try their best by awarding small prizes to the winners.
  1. Interesting Facts

    • Ask the players to sit in a circle and hand one player a roll of toilet paper. Tell him to take as much as he would like. Players must share one interesting fact about themselves for each square of toilet paper they take. After everyone has a turn, go back around the circle and have players select any player from the circle. He must say that player̵7;s name and state one of the facts the player shared about himself. If he is correct, award him a small prize. Alternatively, play this game with a bowl of candy instead of toilet paper. Players must take pieces of candy and share a fact for each piece of candy they take. Do not tell the players why they are taking the paper or the candy before they take it.

    Bingo Games

    • Print bingo cards with attributes, such as ̶0;Has blue eyes̶1; and ̶0;Wearing colored socks̶1; in each bingo square. Give one card to each player. The players must walk around the room and find people who exhibit these attributes and then ask each person sign their bingo card. The first player with a bingo wins the game. Another idea is to give players a blank bingo card. They must walk around trying to find enough people with the same interesting fact to make a bingo. For example, if the bingo card is five squares across, players must find five different people who ̶0;are wearing a blue shirt̶1; or ̶0;are the only child.̶1; The first player to find five people and have them sign the card wins the game.

    Name Games

    • Create a name game by having everyone stand in a circle. Hand one player a rubber ball. That player must say her name and bounce the ball to another player. Then that player must say her name and bounce the ball to another player. After the players do this for about five minutes, start the game: Each player must say the name of the person before bouncing the ball to that person, and must do so in five seconds or be eliminated from the game. End the game with five or six players and declare them all winners.

    Line Games

    • Divide the players into two groups. Give the groups a command such as, ̶0;Line up alphabetically by last name,̶1; ̶0;Line up by shoe size̶1; or ̶0;Line up by birthdays.̶1; The groups must get in the correct order. The first group to get in the correct order wins the game. Play this game as one large group by telling the players they have five minutes to complete the task. If they do it correctly, they all win a small prize.
