Characters
Performing certain tasks can unlock hidden characters. For instance, if you clear the game, you find Marik at the Coliseum on Saturday. Clearing the Sugoroku Tournament and the Survival Tournament causes Shadi to show up in your bedroom. Clearing the game also unlocks Odion, Arkana, Strings, Rare Hunter, Lumis and Umbra, with each character appearing at Mystic Land, Ancient Shrine or Ancient Coliseum. Clearing the game twice reveals Depridess, although you only see his glowing red eyes.
Tournaments
The game also includes several unlockable tournaments. If you win Nationals and then travel to Mystic Land's Mystic Coliseum, you can compete in the Survivor Tournament. In order to compete in the Sugoroku Tournament, you need to beat everyone in Grandpa's store. The KC Cup Tournament may be the most difficult to unlock, requiring you to unlock every hidden character and to beat the Weekend Tournament seven times.
Easy Duel Points
In order to pile up easy DP, or Duel Points, battle opponents you know you can beat. When you get them down to about 100 hit points remaining, summon a powerful monster and use the most damaging attack possible. Not only do you earn DP for winning the duel, but also all inflicted damage points are added to your winnings.
Cards
Inserting secret passwords to unlock valuable cards. The game features dozens and dozens of such passwords. Each consists of an eight-digit number. Notable card passwords include the Ancient Elf code of 93221206, the Clown Zombie code of 92667214, the Dark Magician code of 46986414 and the Flame Viper code of 02830619.
Final Countdown
If you have the Final Countdown card in your hand, play it during any duel for a chance at bonus DP. Once you've played the Final Countdown card, use Trap cards the rest of the way to wait out the duel's full 20 turns. Because you won using Final Countdown, you earn a bonus of 5000 DP. Any damage caused to your opponent is added to your winnings.
