High School Phys Ed Games

Aside from games of baseball, soccer and basketball, educators can prepare a variety of other games for their high school physical education class to keep them healthy and active. Games allow the students to build stamina and strength in a fun way. High school students can enjoy a break from class assignments while playing games that allow them to enjoy physical exercise.
  1. Relay Races

    • Divide the students into two teams and have them stand in a circle. Hand one player a soccer ball or volleyball. When you say ̶0;Go,̶1; the first student must pass the ball over his head to the next player in line. That player must pass the ball through his legs to the next player in line. Each player will continue the pattern of over and under. The first team to get the ball all the way around the circle wins the game. If a team drops the ball, they must start over. Alternatively, make the game more challenging by blindfolding the players.

    Flying Disc Games

    • Allow the students to use flying disc in a few games. Scatter several hula-hoops around the gym floor or outside. Write a point value inside each hoop and mark a starting line 15 feet from the closest hoop. Each student must toss five flying discs at the hoops. If they land a disc in the hoop, they earn the corresponding number of points. The player with the most points wins the game. Alternatively, have a contest to see who can toss a flying disc the farthest distance. Another idea is to hang hoops from trees or basketball goals and have the students try to toss the discs through the hoops.

    Strength Games

    • Have the students sit in a circle and take their shoes off. Make sure everyone has on socks. Select two players to sit in the middle of the circle on a mat. Have them sit on their knees with their feet tucked under them. When you say ̶0;Go,̶1; they must try to get both socks off the other player̵7;s feet. The first player to get both socks wins the game. Another idea is to place a large exercise ball in the middle of the circle. Have each player place his arms around the ball. The first player to wrestle the ball out of the other player̵7;s arms wins the game.

    Hunt Games

    • Hide a bandanna around the gym for the students to hunt. The first player to find the bandanna and bring it to you wins the game. However, players must be discrete or fast if they have the bandanna because other players can try to take it from them before they reach you. Alternatively, divide the high school students into two teams and mark off a section for each team. The teams must each hide a bandanna in their section. Switch sections and the first team to find the hidden bandanna wins the game.
